Work In Canada

coming to Canada on a work permit can be the first step to staying permanently by qualifying under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) which is a path to Permanent Residency.

Every year, more than 190,000 foreign workers enter Canada to work temporarily in jobs that help Canadian employers address skill shortages. A work permit is needed for most temporary jobs in Canada and is issued to eligible foreign workers who wish to work temporarily in Canada. The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is a work permit category of last resort for employers who are unable to recruit qualified Canadians and Permanent Residents. Employers can hire temporary workers through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) or the International Mobility Program (IMP).

The program uses a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to make a determination about work permit approval and includes very detailed advertising and recruiting requirements as well as other compliance obligations. An LMIA verifies that there is a need for a temporary worker and that no Canadians are available to do the job.

Before you apply for Work visa the prospective employer must first file a Labour Market Impact Assessment(LMIA) application with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). When LMIA is approved and issued by ESDC, only then a candidate can apply for work visa / permit.

Some of the most common LMIA-exempt streams are

  • International Agreements

  • Entrepreneurs/Self-Employed Candidates

  • Intra-Company Transferees

  • International Exchange Programs

  • Dependents of Foreign Workers

  • French-Speaking Skilled Workers

  • Religious Workers

  • Academics (researchers, guest lecturers, and visiting professors)

  • Provincial LMIA Exemptions

We are pleased to offer to our Corporate Clients a full range of immigration services to support your business needs.

  • NAFTA Work Permits

  • Temporary Foreign Work Permits

  • Intercompany Transferees: Management, Executives, Specialized Knowledge workers

  • HRDC Labour Market Opinion confirmation – validation letters to allow you to hire a foreign national (LMIA)

  • Extensions – renewals of Temporary Foreign Worker permits

  • Work and Study Permits for family members of intercompany transferees
